The Thing I Finally Stopped Fighting Against In My Doula Business
Your Content Should Feel Like a Room Mothers Want to Stay In
Most doulas are creating content like they're filling out a worksheet.
Educational post.
Inspirational post.
Promotional post.
Repeat.
And while there’s nothing technically wrong with that approach, I think it’s one of the reasons so much content feels flat, forgettable, and disconnected.
Because people don't follow creators simply because they teach useful information.
They follow creators because of how being around them feels.
The strongest brands aren't built on information alone.
They're built on atmosphere.
They're built on emotional experience.
They're built on connection.
And if you're a doula trying to attract more aligned clients, that's a distinction worth paying attention to.
Why Most Doula Content Feels Forgettable
One of the biggest mistakes I see doulas make is treating content like a checklist.
Post educational content.
Post a testimonial.
Post a reel.
Post a call to action.
While those things matter, they don't answer a more important question:
What does it feel like to be inside your world?
When someone lands on your Instagram page, reads your emails, listens to your podcast, or watches your stories, they're not just consuming information.
They're experiencing you.
Your energy.
Your perspective.
Your values.
Your personality.
Your leadership.
And that's what creates connection.
Not another carousel explaining the stages of labor.
Your Content Should Feel Like a Room
Imagine someone walking into a room you've created.
What do they experience?
Does it feel:
Warm?
Safe?
Grounding?
Honest?
Inspiring?
Powerful?
Human?
Deep?
Creative?
Or does it feel like a brochure?
Because the truth is, people don't stay because of information alone.
They stay because of how they feel.
And this matters even more in the doula industry because birth, motherhood, healing, grief, and transformation are deeply emotional experiences.
Women are not just looking for education.
They're looking for resonance.
The 4-Part Content Rotation System
A year ago, I stopped thinking about content pillars and started thinking about emotional dimensions instead.
I began rotating through four different types of content:
1. Lifestyle Content
This isn't about being an influencer.
It's about showing people what your life actually feels like.
Lifestyle content gives your audience a chance to step into your world.
This might include:
Motherhood moments
Dance class
Morning coffee
Date nights
Travel
Family adventures
Home birth stories
Daily routines
People hire people they can picture themselves around.
Not just people they learn from.
Lifestyle content helps clients connect with the human behind the business.
2. Emotional Content
This is where the deepest connections happen.
This is the content that makes someone stop scrolling and whisper:
"Me too."
Topics might include:
Fear
Grief
Motherhood identity shifts
Rejection
Self-trust
Visibility fears
Burnout
Ambition
Healing
Many doulas spend so much time trying to sound educational that they completely skip emotional connection.
But emotional connection is what creates loyalty.
People don't remember every tip you've shared.
They remember how you made them feel.
3. Valuable Content
This is where your expertise shines.
But valuable doesn't mean overwhelming people with information.
Some of the most powerful content isn't educational.
It's perspective.
For example:
Instead of saying:
"Follow up with leads."
You might say:
"Most doulas aren't losing clients because they're bad at birth work. They're losing clients because they disappear the moment discomfort enters the conversation."
That's not information.
That's leadership.
And leadership creates authority.
4. Ritual Content
This is the secret ingredient most people ignore.
Ritual content is made up of the phrases, beliefs, and themes you repeat over and over again.
For me, those include:
Sales skills are life skills
Referrals aren't a strategy
Women don't hire perfect
Busy but not booked
These ideas become associated with you.
And that's how memorability is built.
Not through novelty.
Through repetition.
Why This Content Strategy Works
Because it creates dimension.
Instead of seeing you as:
"A doula who posts educational content."
People begin seeing you as:
A person
A leader
A guide
A voice they trust
Someone they feel connected to
The strongest brands create emotional texture.
That's why some creators feel impossible to forget.
Not because they're constantly sharing revolutionary ideas.
But because their presence feels like something.
Stop Asking What to Post
If your content has been feeling forced, boring, repetitive, or disconnected lately, I want you to stop asking:
"What should I post?"
And start asking:
"What experience am I creating?"
Because that's the real goal.
Not views.
Not reach.
Not engagement.
Connection.
Relationship.
Resonance.
Your content shouldn't feel like a bulletin board.
It should feel like a room people want to stay in.
Ready to Improve Your First Impression?
Your Instagram bio is the front door to that room.
And if your bio feels vague, generic, or emotionally disconnected, people leave before they ever get the chance to experience what makes you different.
That's exactly why I created my Doula IG Bio Audit.
I'll personally review:
Your bio
Your messaging
Your positioning
Your personality expression
Your memorability
Your overall first impression
So your page actually feels like YOU.
Not a template.
Not a corporate brochure.
Not every other doula online.
I only open 10 spots per month because I personally complete every audit myself.
If you'd like one, grab your spot before they're gone.
Because the strongest brands aren't built on information.
They're built on feeling.
